A British doctor has been arrested in Cambodia on Thursday after four underage girls between the ages of 12 and 15 accused him of rape.

Local authorities arrested 69-year-old Clive Robert Kingsley Cressy at a cafe in Phnom Penh following reports from his alleged victims, according to The Sun.

A raid conducted on Cressy’s condo yielded an assortment of children’s clothes, shoes, and toys. Images from the search show the doctor’s suitcase filled with Barbie dolls and young girls’ clothing.

Some of Cressy’s belongings were seized, including computers, a laptop, camera, external hard drive, and DVDs. The items will also be thoroughly checked as the police are “doing more investigation” to find other potential victims.

According to the police, the doctor from Hove, East Sussex allegedly paid four girls aged 12, 13, 14 and 15 to have sex with him. It is also reported that he paid up to $3,000 to have sex with a virgin.

His Vietnamese girlfriend, identified as Chea Sokthy, is believed to have acted as Cressy’s accomplice. She has also been arrested, according to the Phnom Penh Post. The 27-year-old woman is under suspicion of procuring the would-be victims for Cressy.

According to Phnom Penh’s municipal anti-trafficking police chief Keo Thea, Cressy has been under police surveillance for months. During the investigation, the doctor has been observed to leave and return to Cambodia a number of times.

"I've been dying to post this": Terminally ill dad-of-three's final Facebook message before ending his life at Dignitas

Ex-soldier Nigel Casson - who once arrested IRA commander Martin McGuinness - chose to end his life after a 10-year battle with Motor Neuron Disease

Mirror

Even in the moments before he ended his life at the Dignitas clinic, “inspirational” dad-of-three Nigel Casson found the strength to keep smiling and cracking gags.

The 62-year-old former soldier’s family told how he was telling jokes until the end. And he signed off on Facebook by saying: “I’ve been ‘dying’ to post this. Ha ha ha ha ha. Thank you and goodbye.”

He had battled motor neurone disease for 10 years, needing round-the-clock care as he was no longer able to carry out even the most basic tasks himself.

His Facebook post added: “I wanted to die with dignity instead of being tortured. Some people may think it’s the easy way out but believe me it’s not easy to leave your loving family and friends.”

The businessman asked wife Julie to post the message online shortly before he died at the clinic in Switzerland.

He never got to see the hundreds of comments because he didn’t want to be “glued to Facebook” in his final hours.

The Brit spent the time with his wife of 39 years and their three children Craig, 42, Eleanor, 38, and Rebecca, 33. Julie, 58, told yesterday how the family spent two “special” days in Switzerland before they gathered at his side as he pressed the button to administer the fatal drugs in a room at the clinic near Zurich.

Julie said: “He was making jokes right up to the point, and he was smiling.”

About his wish to die, she added: “You have got to respect people’s decisions but it was still heartbreaking when he told me this is what he wanted to do.

“He joked and laughed every day. He was an inspiration and helped the rest of us cope with the heartbreaking effects of motor neurone disease.”

The illness wrecks the victim’s muscles, eventually leaving them unable to move, speak, eat or breathe.

Nigel said it is wrong that assisted suicide is illegal in Britain.

Explaining why he chose to die now, he said in the Facebook post: “I wanted to take back control of my life and take the victory of killing me away from this disease. I wanted to die while I am happy and can still smile and not be controlled by this wicked disease any longer.”

In response, family and friends paid tribute to the “finest man” they knew. His sister Tracey Casson said: “I salute you and love you always.”

Nigel served in the Army as an infantryman in the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment during the 1970s.

He served in Northern Ireland. Julie said he once arrested Irish republican and Sinn Féin politician Martin McGuinness, who died in January.

Nigel, from Scarborough, North Yorks, left the Army after a three-year stint and then started up a scaffolding firm and a removal business.

He was diagnosed in 2007 with the debilitating disease and was given three to five years to live.

Wheelchair-bound and becoming increasingly weak, Nigel decided last August that he would go to Dignitas.

“By the end he needed help with everything,” said Julie.

“We had a team of carers giving him round-the-clock care. He relied on a wheelchair for the last seven years.

“His limbs were becoming extremely weak. He needed help with everything such as feeding, showering and going to the toilet.

“He was completely disabled but managed to keep his spirit.

“Because of his immobility and disability he found comfort in using Facebook. It kept him in touch with the world. He could still manage to touch the screen but also had eye-gaze technology to help him.”

But she added that near the end: “He was having days where he was becoming dispirited.

“He was conscious that if he didn’t go while he physically could, he would miss an opportunity.

“He didn’t want to get to a stage where he was unable to speak or unable to communicate his feelings and frustrations, and feel entombed within his own body.”

The family said they decided to speak about the ordeal to encourage the Government to change the law.

Assisting someone to commit suicide is illegal in England and Wales. It carries a potential jail sentence of 14 years.

But in 2010 the Director of Public Prosecutions issued guidelines that tried to clarify what would happen to families who go to places such as Dignitas with dying loved ones.

It was indicated that anyone acting with compassion to help end the life of someone who does not want to live would be unlikely to face charges.

The latest proposal to reform the Suicide Act 1961 was rejected in the Commons in 2015. The assisted dying bill proposed to enable “competent adults who are terminally ill” to choose to be helped to die “with medically supervised assistance”.

In Scotland there is no specific crime of assisting a suicide but helping someone die could lead to a prosecution for culpable homicide.

Switzerland allows euthanasia in certain circumstances. It is understood that last year 47 Britons went to assisted dying clinic Dignitas to end their lives, with families saying they spent thousands of pounds. Assisted dying has also been legalised in nations such as the Netherlands.

Motor neurone disease affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK. About half of sufferers die within 14 months of being diagnosed. Nigel, whose first name was David but was known by his middle name, died last week.

Julie said her husband supported the Dignity in Dying campaign, which believes terminally-ill adults should have the option of assisted dying.

She added that even though Nigel died as he wanted, the family is devastated. Julie said: “Nigel was a very realistic man and did not moan about his fate. He decided to keep a positive attitude throughout.

“He embraced what was to be the rest of his life with exceptional good humour, maintaining good spirits to the end. We are a close family and are grief-stricken by the loss of Nigel.”

Peter Martin Ebel, ex-Stillwater teacher and fugitive pedophile suspect, back in jail

Pioneer Press

PUBLISHED: June 15, 2013 at 11:01 pm | UPDATED: November 6, 2015 at 8:31 pm

Peter Martin Ebel was many things to many people when he became a fugitive from justice in Minnesota 22 years ago.

To the students and faculty of St. Croix Catholic and Stillwater Junior High schools in the late 1970s, he was Edward Alan Scott, a published author, accomplished photographer and stern but brilliant math and Latin teacher. He also taught one of his proteges how to fly an airplane.

To officials of a boys academy in Georgia, he was Dr. Ebel, a respected and renowned child researcher based in Albania.

But much of what people knew about the man, now 54, was a deception — from his relationship with children and teaching background to the doctor credentials that led to felony drug charges against him in Minnesota in 1979.

Ebel jumped bail in 1980, and his whereabouts remained a mystery to authorities and others for two decades, until he was arrested last year and then pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges in Los Angeles.

Today, as Ebel sits in a federal prison cell awaiting sentencing and a possible mandatory minimum 10-year prison term, federal authorities and those who came in contact with Ebel are wondering aloud how many child victims there may be in Minnesota and elsewhere.

Ebel was detained at a California airport Sept. 7 and later was arrested after he was caught with sexually explicit pictures of young boys. In the process, federal officials learned he had been convicted 34 years ago in England on a sex-related charge.

Ebel’s court-appointed attorney could not be reached for comment.

“I’m wondering … if we’re just scratching the tip of the iceberg here,” says Rodrigo Castro-Silva, the federal prosecutor in California handling the case.

“There were a lot of kids he came in contact with here,” says Allen Klein, a former Stillwater Junior High student who filed a lawsuit in 1993 against St. Croix Catholic School and in a deposition alleged that Ebel had molested him.

Klein, a 38-year-old Plymouth resident who is publicly coming forward for the first time, suspects there may be other victims besides him.

“My desire now is to confront (Ebel) face to face and talk to him about what he did to me,” Klein says.

EDWARD ALAN SCOTT

Interviews with more than a dozen people nationally and a review of court documents portray Ebel as an enigmatic Renaissance man who impressed people with his knowledge of subjects ranging from medical surgeries to nuclear power plant operations.

Ebel, actually a 10th-grade high school dropout from Morrison County, N.J., and using Edward Alan Scott as an alias, secured a job for the 1976-77 school year as a math teacher at the St. Croix Catholic School. The school, also known as St. Michael’s School, shared physical education and other courses with a nearby public school, Stillwater Junior High.

“He was brilliant, had a vocabulary to die for, and he was teaching a summer photography class to area kids,” recalls Brandon Crawford, then a St. Croix teacher and now the head of its middle-school program. “At the time, we were in need of a math teacher and he supplied us with what seemed excellent credentials, like his education in England.”

Known as “Mr. Scott,” Ebel had written two books under the pseudonym of Reynolds Locke. One dealt with anthrax mutation. The other, published by the now-defunct Stein & Day publishers, was called “Mayday 747” and involved the aftereffects of a jumbo jet crash. A third book, “Soldier of Eden,” a purported nonfiction account of an orphaned American boy who became an Arab freedom fighter in Libya, was published in England in 1987 under the pen name of James Congdon.

After joining the faculty, Scott quickly gravitated toward a small core group of students, school officials said. One of them was Klein, a bright seventh-grader with six siblings and the product of a troubled home. Scott befriended Klein and his family and taught him how to fly an airplane. Meanwhile, posing as Dr. Peter Martin Ebel, he was duping a pharmacy in Maplewood into filling bogus prescriptions for Valium and codeine, according to charges brought later.

Suspicions were raised at both schools when the nurse at Stillwater Junior High received a note through Scott from a Dr. Ebel asking that Klein be excused from taking a shower because he had been diagnosed with scoliosis.

Don Hovland and Steven Studer, then principal and assistant principal at Stillwater Junior High School, and Sister Kathleen Foley, then principal at St. Croix, denied the request and confronted Scott about his credentials near the end of the 1976-77 school year.

A short time later, Ebel took Klein to England on a supposed trip to treat him with growth hormone drugs not available in this country, according to Klein and others.

Klein was in fact among three boys taken to England with their parents’ permission, all of whom “returned with drug dependency problems,” according to a Maplewood police incident report. The children, according to the report, refused to talk with authorities about the trips or their relationship with Ebel.

Officials at both schools compared notes and secured copies of bogus drug prescriptions Ebel had obtained for Klein’s mother and others and as well as for himself, according to court records.

Scott was booted from the school after one year on the job and subsequently charged in Ramsey County District Court on June 10, 1979, with two felony counts in the drug case.

A Stillwater family that had rented an apartment to Ebel posted $500 bail on his behalf. He left town during a pretrial hearing in early 1980, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

His fugitive status ignited more suspicions about his relationships with Klein and a handful of other students. During one of his trips to England, he had brought back with him a boy. The boy, Crawford learned years later, committed suicide after returning to England.

“I guess we didn’t know much about these things back then, and in hindsight there were red flags,” Crawford said last week after learning of Ebel’s arrest in September. “But there was nothing blatant. The parents trusted this man. The kids never told us what if anything happened.

“There was nothing we could get our hands on.”

CAPTURED

U.S. Customs Service agent Randy Karavanich was ready when Swissair Flight 106 landed at Tom Bradley International terminal in Los Angeles on Sept. 7, 2001. Ebel was on board and, because of a tip from officials at Gables Academy in Stone Mountain, Ga., he was suspected of being engaged in child pornography or molestation.

Ebel, who claimed to be a researcher for a nonprofit group in Albania, had approached the school three years earlier and persuaded it to invest in an exchange program and a school to be built on the strikingly beautiful shores of the Adriatic Sea. In return, Ebel’s adopted son, a 13-year-old, received English language classes at the academy.

But the therapist wife of James Meffen III, the school’s headmaster, became concerned after traveling to Albania and uncovering what she considered a disturbingly close relationship between Ebel and several boys.

A check of Ebel’s criminal background by the Customs Service disclosed the 1980 warrant from Minnesota as well as an arrest in 1968 by Scotland Yard police in England for an “indecent assault” on a minor under 16. Ebel was put on three years’ probation for that incident.

Karavanich was surprised to find Ebel in the company of three boys from Albania, including an 8-year-old suffering from what was later diagnosed as a genetic blindness disorder that could only be corrected in the United States.

Ebel was allowed to leave after airport authorities seized a laptop computer, a digital camera and several computer disks in Ebel’s belongings.

Chandice Covington, a professor of nursing at UCLA and a medical researcher who had befriended Ebel after learning about his alleged research into the development of Albanian males and the nutritional impact of iodine deficiency, said, “I was highly suspicious at that point, and the bells started going off in my head.”

It took three weeks for authorities to discover digital and hard-copy images of naked boys masturbating each other and other pictures that had nothing to do with the research. Meanwhile, Covington, who had offered her Westwood home to Ebel, contacted Los Angeles police after she found the kids one morning tearing up sexually explicit pictures of themselves and flushing them down her bathroom toilet.

Ebel was arrested, and the boys, one of whom was suffering from sexually transmitted warts on his face, were reunited with their families in Albania. Ebel pleaded guilty to one count of manufacture of child pornography and is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 19 in Los Angeles. The blind boy is allowed to return periodically to undergo a series of surgeries to restore his eyesight, Covington said.

Officials in Minnesota are not sure whether Ebel will be extradited to face the outstanding charges.

“To be frank, the charges here are peanuts compared to what he is facing in California,” said James Konen, an assistant Ramsey County attorney who initially handled the drug-related case. “To my knowledge, we never received any information about (suspected child molestation).”

Like many others, Covington expressed surprise at the Minnesota connection, but not at the nature of the arrest.

”Who knows how many victims there are out there?” she says. “He certainly duped a lot of people along the way. But he is living proof that pedophiles don’t come in black and white. He’s a brilliant man who did try to help out some kids, like the blind boy. But he is also a sick and evil man.”

Whether it’s a nick or full circumcision, female genital mutilation is about control: Paradkar

In some cultures, talking about sex is taboo, as is talking about genitals. The taboo allows for vagueness to conveniently mask what is essentially a caging of female desire.

Seven years old.

Unsuspecting girls, told by their mothers they are being taken some place special. That place, a darkened room, where they are held down, their little legs parted and a blade brought down to slice off the hood of the clitoris or even the clitoris, itself.

This week, lawyers south of the border said they planned to mount a religious exemption defence after a U.S. federal jury indicted two Detroit-area doctors and the wife of one of the doctors in April for scheming to perform Female Genital Mutilation. This is horrifying. FGM was outlawed in the U.S. in 1996. It is also a criminal offense in Canada.

A cultural practice that began millennia ago and wound its way through Africa, the Middle East and 19th century U.S. medical practice, still affects millions of women around the world. FGM ranges from genital nicks and scrapes to wholesale cutting and stitching up, often by untrained hands.

Among Dawoodi Bohras, a small sect of Ismaili Shia Muslims from India and Pakistan, the 600-year-old practice takes a milder, but still indefensible form of mutilation.

Haram ki boti, is what that delicate part of the body is called in Gujarati. Sinful flesh.

Its removal “moderates the (sexual) urge . . . so there’s less chance of extra-marital affairs,” says a woman in the eye-opening 2012 documentary called A Pinch of Skin (viewable on YouTube).

Women on various forums recall harrowing experiences of pain, confusion over the duplicity of their mothers and grandmothers and repression from the silence or dismissiveness that follows.

“It’s an incongruous experience of something terrifying happening and people saying it’s no big deal,” says Toronto resident Farzana Doctor, 46, a registered social worker in private psychotherapy practice and a novelist, who belongs to the Dawoodi Bohra community. “You grow up and never made sense of it, and then you’re told you have to do it to your daughter.”

Although FGM is not considered an Islamic practice, in this sect, which is otherwise known for progressive attitudes on women and education, those who practice it consider it a religious requirement.

How does faith blind you so much that you’d place your little girl on a risk-filled path of pain?

Clearly, a few Bohra women wondered, too. The issue of FGM resurfaced after their concerted efforts to bring the hushed conversation out in the public sphere began to have an impact.

2015 was a seminal year.

Farzana Doctor was one of the original signatories of a Speak Out against FGM petition on change.org in December 2015, which resulted this week in a pledge of support by India’s Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi for a proposed anti-FGM law.

In November of that year, five women from the diasporic community, including a Canadian researcher, set up Sahiyo, a non-profit organization to end genital cutting.

Also that month, three people from the community were convicted in Australia of FGM, the first such prosecution in that country.

I can only hope no court in the U.S. ever allows girls to be abused under the guise of religion.

Abuse, because we’re not talking about adult women opting for designer vaginas. This is about cutting off a body part of a minor incapable of consent. And it holds true for circumcision of girls — and of boys, a practice that is widely carried out in North America.

But there the equivalence ends.

Circumcision of boys, a controversial and emotionally charged topic, is almost always by medical doctors (and not by a razor blade in a dark room), so you could say there is some comfort in a reduced risk of harm.

Science scrambled to catch up with that cultural practice and has thrown up contradictory results.

Female circumcision has no known medical benefits.

Then there is an added insult in the Bohra community. Circumcision of boys is openly celebrated. For girls, “it’s a very secretive practice,” says Doctor. “Often, the men don’t even know it’s happening to their daughters.”

So shrouded is it in secrecy that a celebration held after the cutting doesn’t even mention the girl has undergone khatna, the circumcision.

Get wounded, then hide in shame.

Like parents who circumcise their boys, women do this to their girls believing it to be in their interest.

In reality, in whose interest is it?

“It does damage to nerve endings,” says Doctor. “There’s psychological harm that makes them (women) afraid of sex. There’s pain during sex, risk of infections.”

Stories by affected women indicate it’s about male sexual insecurities.

“When a woman’s urge is moderated, many sins are eliminated from society,” says a young woman in A Pinch of Skin.

Urge to do what? To seek attention? To have sex? To have orgasms?

There’s no clarity on this, because talking about sex is taboo, as is talking about genitals.

The taboo allows for vagueness to conveniently mask what is essentially a caging of female desire.

Circumcision, whether it’s a symbolic nick, as some now claim, or a removal of the clitoral hood or clitoris, is a mark of sexual control over female bodies in this traditionally entrepreneurial culture where men travelled far as traders and were away from their wives and families for a long time.

It’s an interference that hoodwinks women into confining little girls in a chastity belt.

No such restraints for the travellers.

----

America and Europe are evil. Let them self-destruct by fostering sexual hatred. They will kill each other, and the system will kill itself.

----

Female sexuality is a merchandise. This probably is at the root of human civilization. In modern culture, the item that is the merchandise is also the seller. Women sell themselves. Conflicts are preprogrammed.
